Comprehensive Examination
In a comprehensive examination, our doctors take necessary records to provide a complete diagnosis and treatment plan. This examination will include:
Oral Cancer Screening: If you are a tobacco user, you are at a higher risk for developing oral cancer. We are committed to the prevention of oral cancer through the early identification of pre-cancerous conditions, and provide screenings at each preventive care appointment.
Periodontal Examination: Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. We will examine your gums to ensure that if any gum disease is present, it will be detected in its earliest stages. We take the health of your gum and bone tissues very seriously, since bone loss is a major factor in determining the successful outcome of cosmetic treatment.
Caries Exam: During a caries (or cavities) examination, we locate areas of decay on chewing surfaces and between teeth. Our doctors use both a visual exam and x-rays to determine the best treatment plan for your dental needs.
Restorative Procedures
Amalgam Fillings: Often referred to as “silver fillings”, amalgam fillings restore the tooth’s structure and offer strength and durability for those tooth surfaces which are less visible.
White/Composite Fillings: Made of tooth-colored material, composite fillings restore the tooth’s natural appearance. Composites are matched closely to your natural tooth color and are virtually undetectable from your non-restored teeth. While they are excellent options for front teeth, they may also be recommended for certain sites on molars. These composite fillings have proven to be stain-resistant and extremely durable.
Bonded Onlay Restorations: Made of tooth-colored material, these restorations are bonded to teeth. This strengthens the remaining tooth structure and reduces the likelihood of future fractures. Their strength and color make them a practical choice in many cases.
Veneers: Veneers are thin, translucent shells bonded to the front of teeth. Usually customized from porcelain, they are durable, stain-resistant, and natural in appearance. Veneers conceal broken, chipped, discolored, and misshapen teeth, and provide an attractive and natural-looking smile in a minimal number of visits.
Crowns: A crown is a restoration technique which covers a tooth for the purpose of strengthening it as well as restoring it to its natural size and shape. It may be placed to retain a large filling when there is little remaining tooth structure, to attach a bridge, protect weak or broken teeth from further damage, or restore fractured teeth. Following root canal therapy, a tooth that has been treated with will require a crown to strengthen and support the tooth.
Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are an option if some healthy teeth are present for support in conjunction with the gums and jawbone. A partial denture, though removable, provides a replacement for missing teeth.
Full Dentures: Full dentures are used if there are no natural teeth remaining in the mouth. The full denture covers more of the jaw than a partial denture and is held in place by a natural vacuum in the mouth and/or by adhesive products.
Diagnostic and Preventive Services
Sealants: Usually applied as a child’s permanent teeth erupt, sealants protect the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Additionally, adult molars can also be sealed, as long as a tooth does not show evidence of decay. The sealants that we use on both children and adults have been very successful in discouraging decay.
Regular Prophylaxis: These regular appointments provide our doctors and hygienists with the opportunity to monitor your dental health and to clean under your gum line where your toothbrush can’t reach. By removing the plaque that causes decay and gum infection, and educating you about prevention, they help to promote healthy gums and teeth.
Night guard Therapy: Night guards are frequently used as a treatment option to prevent damage to the chewing surfaces of the teeth caused by grinding and clenching of the jaw muscles. It is a conservative and highly recommended treatment that is successful for patients with TMJ dysfunction. By creating an acrylic model of your teeth, we can help you protect your teeth from unnecessary wear.
